Auckland Pride Festival 2014

Auckland Pride Festival 2014

The Auckland Pride Festival is a colourful and diverse celebration of Rainbow Community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, takatāpui, intersex, fa’afafine) arts, culture and identity. Proudly supported by Unitec, the 2014 festival will run from 6-23 February right across Auckland.

Pride will climax when the monumental Auckland Pride Parade 2014 rolls, marches and dances down the length of Ponsonby Road on Saturday 22 February, commencing at the later time of 7pm. Upon the parade’s conclusion, the iconic brick chimney at Victoria Park Market will light up in rainbow colours for PROUD, the official Auckland Pride Festival closing party.

The festival kicks off in fabulous VIP style at The Auckland Pride Gala on Friday 7 February at Q Theatre. On Sunday 9 February, the celebrations come out into the sunlight with the incredibly popular LYC Big Gay Out at Coyle Park in Point Chevalier.

Bear New Zealand Week will run alongside the Auckland Pride Festival from 9-16 February, including the Mr Urge New Zealand Bear 2014 pageant and the unforgettable Bear Drag Race along Karangahape Road.

The big finish to the 2014 festival is a massive destination weekend that features both the Auckland Pride Parade and PROUD Party. The final weekend’s festivities get underway when international air hostess and cult comedian Pam Ann lands in Auckland for the very first time on Friday 21 February at the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre.

The final weekend also features the Heroic Gardens Festival, granting exclusive access to some of Auckland’s most prestigious private gardens on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February.

With many more exciting events and artists, both international and from New Zealand, to be announced in the coming weeks, the Auckland Pride Festival 2014 is set to be an incredible two weeks and three weekends for Aucklanders - and for the many visitors who will travel to Auckland to feel the love at Pride events.

The Auckland Pride Festival would not happen without the support of our fabulous festival partners at Unitec, Auckland Council, Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development (ATEED), Ponsonby Business Association, Gay Auckland Business Association (GABA) and the New Zealand AIDS Foundation.
